After reigniting the public’s demand for passionate lyrical content, Watts native Kenyon Dixon presents his highly-anticipated new album, The R&B You Love, out today.
The 17-track opus finds the Grammy-nominated phenom recreating the magic of the late ‘90s/Early 2000s R&B. As he deftly guides listeners through a trip down memory lane, Kenyon pays homage to the slow-burning groove of yesteryear while contributing to the genre’s resurgence. Alongside the album, Kenyon unveils his latest visual for “2000s R&B.” Watch above.
On the new album, Kenyon Dixon shares: “I’ve been on a mission to make people demand & expect more from modern R&B. It’s such a sacred genre & deserves the best representation all around; from the studio, to your speakers to the stage. I hope this album makes you fall back in love with R&B. Cheers to ‘The R&B You Love.’”
From the opening chords on the first track, “In Your Head,” the stage is set, as Kenyon’s dreamlike melodies bring the hook to life. The production on the album oozes with nostalgia, with songs like “Good Love” and “2000s R&B” featuring RL providing the basis for something special. He initially paved the way for the project with a pocket of pre-released gems: “Slow Dancing” feat. Kincy, “Lucky” and, most recently, the Tiffany Gouché-assisted “98 Vibes (Do You Right).” The latter was praised by VIBE, describing Kenyon’s soulful score as an “amorous record” that’s “a perfect cuffing season soundtrack.”
The R&B You Love is the follow-up to 2022’s acclaimed Closer LP, and the expanded edition, Closer (Deluxe). Kenyon continues to envelop listeners with earworm melodies that remind us of R&B’s golden era. The expansive body of work also includes features from Cozz and Alex Isley.
Over the years, Kenyon has routinely delivered next level collaborations while reserving some ink in the pen for his own solo efforts. In fact, the accomplished songwriter just teamed up with international superstar Justin Timberlake to score his new pop gem “Keep Going Up” with Timbaland & Nelly Furtado.
Elsewhere, R&B Kenny has been active on social media, bringing fans closer to the R&B they love with each post. His #thernbyoulovemashups have continued to climb online, and now, Kenyon offers impassioned pieces of his reality on wax.
